How Insipid is this Man?

Jimmy Dolan spent two hours in a live on-the-air conversation with Chris "Mad Dog" Russo and Mike Francesa on Friday.

Some people in our world achieve wealth and power through hard work, intelligent decisions and innovation. Jimmy Dolan is not one of those people. No. Instead, Jimmy's dad, Charles Dolan, hijacked the cable rights for much of Long Island back in the days when no one knew what cable was. He had a monopoly, and he knew what to do with it.

Much as the great Robber Barons of the Gilded Age, Charles Dolan squeezed every last nickel from his helpless customers. And like the Robber Barons, Charlie accumulated great wealth. So much so that he bought his son Jimmy a toy, a very expensive one- Madison Square Garden and the two sports franchises that play there.

Jimmy had always wanted to be a hockey player. But lacking the talent for hockey, Jimmy could do the next best thing, play Fantasy Hockey with real players.

When Jimmy took over the team, the Rangers were enjoying the greatest success in franchise history. But Jimmy could do better.

Now, a decade later, the Rangers are the joke of the National Hockey League. But that doesn't bother Jimmy. Jimmy is having a good time. Fortunately for Jimmy, and all Ranger fans, there won't be a hockey season this year, because Jimmy and his fellow owners have locked the players out.

His record with the Knicks is very similar, although the presence of Isaiah Thomas at the helm means the team will be at least mediocre.

And, of course, there are the Jets. Jimmy really wanted the Jets, so he got daddy to put up $600 million for them. However, Woody Johnson also wanted them, and the late Leon Hess' family decided to sell to Woody. All a Jet fan in New York has to do is look at the mess in the Garden to know what a good break he or she caught when Woody won the bidding.

Now the reason why Daddy Dolan was more than willing to fork over all that cash was simple. Daddy was going to build a facility on the west side of Manhattan where he could put all three of his son's sports toys, and sell the land under Madison Square Garden to developers.

Because, in the end, Daddy Dolan is growing tired of it all. Daddy Dolan really wants is to get out. Cut losses. The Dolans don't do well in a competitive atmosphere, such as they find themselves in, now.

However, he doesn't want to get stuck holding the bag. If Woody Johnson and the Jets build a sports facility on the Hudson, the value of Dolan's Garden of Horrors goes down the tubes. The building itself was poorly designed, and can't compete with a new facility. Talk of renovating the Garden is just that, talk. You could renovate it from now until doomsday, it will still be too small. That is why the Dolans are willing to shell out millions to stop the stadium. Any competition on the west side will doom them.

If you want to know how truly untalented and insipid Jimmy Dolan is, listen to his two hours of excuses, lies, and fabrications with Mike and the Mad Dog.

Here is a link to FAN's Media page, where you can listen to both hours of Jimmy in his October 29th conversation. Although, after five minutes or so, you'll pretty much get the picture. Jimmy Dolan is a...well, I'll let you choose the word.
