BLOOMBERG PROVIDES MORE SILVER SERVICE

May 27, 2005 -- Mayor Bloomberg continued his blatant courtship of Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver yesterday, announcing yet another development for lower Manhattan as the vote approached in Albany on the West Side stadium.

"It's pretty hard to disagree with the statement that Shelly Silver has been great for all of New York City," Bloomberg declared at the groundbreaking of a 30-story condo in TriBeCa.

The 258-unit tower — on a prized parcel of Chambers Street known as site 5C — includes a 27,600-square-foot community center.

That provided enough of a hook for the mayor to join Silver and other elected officials inside PS 234 to hype progress on a downtown revitalization plan adopted in 2002.

Silver insisted more has to be done to restore downtown to its pre-9/11 prosperity.
